Care Instructions

With the correct care, your new board will last for many years.  Follow these steps for the best chance of long term success

First, NEVER put your board in the dishwasher or fully submerge/soak the board

Second, hand wash with gentle dish soap only

Saturate every surface (yes, even the sides) with water every time you use it.

Don't fall into the trap of washing only part of your board.  If your board soaks up more moisture in one corner compared to another, it will warp.

You can use a green scrub pad, but nothing more abrasive (like steel wool)

I suggest avoiding scented soaps, these can leave a taste in your food

Scrub soap onto every part of the board, then rinse off

Third, leave your board to dry vertically

Every cutting board needs air on both sides in order to dry without warping, no matter what.

Cutting board stands are great for this.  Mine are currently in development.

Fourth, apply board butter generously on a regular basis

The purpose of the board butter is to repel water on the wood surface. You will wash this coating off over the next week or two after applying it, and it needs to be reapplied

Frequent board butter application is one of the only costs of maintaining your board for years to come.

Trust me, it's better to over apply and to do so too often than to let it slide for too long

If your board looks really dry, I recommend starting with mineral oil saturation, very much like what I do when I finish the boards for the first time.  There are plenty of videos of this on my social media pages

Fifth, if you have questions, reach out to me as soon as you have them

I would much rather give you advice ahead of time than try to remedy long-overdue maintenance
